Hebden Bridge based AA Patrol, Alex Diggle, sprang into action yesterday as the popular Peak District route, Winnats Pass, became blocked by a motorhome and some smaller cars which had failed to negotiate the steep, snow covered incline.
With traffic blocked in both directions, the 2021 AA Patrol of the Year finalist* was able to use his skills and experience to mobilise the smaller vehicles, then manoeuvre the luxury vehicle into a position of safety, much to the relief of its owner, and other waiting drivers.
Once the smaller surrounding vehicles were moving again, albeit slowly, Alex used his AA vehicle’s four-wheel-drive capabilities to clear a route for the large motorhome and guided it up and over the vital pass, allowing the relieved European tourist safely on his way.
Tony Rich, AA spokesperson, said: “Alex’s actions show how AA five-star patrols** set themselves apart from others, helping to keep drivers moving safely, in all conditions. Using the free AA Breakdown App allows you to report a breakdown and track your patrol form your mobile phone, as well as pin-pointing your breakdown location.
He added: “With temperatures dropping and some roads becoming treacherous in parts, it makes sense to plan your route in advance. Using the AA Route Planner to plan your route could help save you time and inconvenience on your journey. Pack food, water, warm clothes and proper shoes in case you are waiting on the lay-by for the breakdown services to reach you.”
